I had an impossible time photographing this dish. The combination of the lighting (it was dark out), my dark table, and my dessert glass just didn't work at all. Luckily, this was much easier to make - and to eat - than it was to photograph. I decided to make the raspberry-cassis ice cream that Dorie recommends and was so glad I did. It was quick to make, the consistency was perfect, and I loved the clean, fresh flavor. A perfect summer ice cream, but I love that it can be made year-round with frozen berries. The dessert as a whole was definitely good, but the ice cream really stole the show. This would also be a perfect dinner party dessert. It's pretty and tasty enough for company, and everything but the assembly can be done ahead of time. We canned 12 quarts of peaches last month, and I'm looking forward to using them to make this dessert in the winter. It's always fun to be reminded of summer!

Oh I am SO jealous of your canned peaches - you will be able to enjoy this all winter long! I also had a hard time photographing this - it melted! Then I blitzed it in the blender, froze it and made creamsicles!
ReplyDeleteAnd it melts too fast to take the picture too. Very frustrating. Excellent on the canned peaches. We haven't not have much success growning them in NY.
ReplyDeleteYour picture turned out nicely. The next time I make this dessert I am going to try the raspberry-cassis ice cream. Thanks for the tip:)
ReplyDeleteWasn´t the ice cream great? And your own canned peaches, that´s wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI think it's most important to eat this before it melts! Your photo shows how luscious this dessert is, dark or no.
ReplyDeleteI agree, in fact, I was quite surprised by how unphotogenic this was. I blamed my serving glasses, who knows, but mine tasted much better than it looks in the pictures. And I also agree that the ice cream took the cake! De-lish. In fact, I'm enjoying the leftovers as I type.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I couldn't photograph this properly in a glass dish, so I had to switch to a white one. Great post!
ReplyDeleteAs pretty as this was, it sure was hard to get the "beauty" shot.
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream absolutely sounds like it was worthy of the spotlight.
Oh, I can so relate to trying to photograph after dark...I stink at it! But yours still looks fantastic...and what gorgeous glasses! Looking forward to cooking along with you for the next 100 recipes :)
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that you canned your own peaches, now I am seriously jealous. It will be so nice to enjoy them during fall and winter time. There are no peach trees around here so we have to import them from warmer countries but we do get vineyard peaches from not too far away but since they seemed to be too oddly shaped for a decent presentation, I opted for Spanish peaches instead. Your Peach Melba looks delectable and the homemade ice cream sounds fantastic, where do you find the time to prepare all those things?! Have a wonderful Sunday!
ReplyDeleteomg did you see our pictures?? we couldnt get the light to cooperate with the photo at all. sucky. you did great though!
ReplyDeleteThis is my new favorite. Yay that you can have it all winter long. Happy 100th recipe. I've enjoying getting to know you.
ReplyDeleteI think your photograph is beautiful. It's easy to see how delicious this is. Siusan also made the ice cream and I think the two of you are in agreement that the ice cream over-shadowed the dessert itself. How lucky you are to be able to enjoy peaches (and, peach melba) all Winter long.
ReplyDeleteWell your photo turned out lovely regardless ;) This looks delicious!
