FFWD Tuna Rillettes

I'm seriously considering changing the name of my blog to "Paul Cooks, Jora Writes About It."  Or maybe just "Paul Cooks, Jora Eats."  Yesterday was another crazy day.  I was home with Charlotte but things at work were going insane and I kept being interrupted.  I made the *excellent* decision to ignore work from 4:45 until 7.  It was a gorgeous day outside, and Charlotte and I walked and met up with some other moms and babies at a nearby park.  We had a great time, and I almost stopped caring about all of the issues at work.  When I got home, however, I knew I had a lot to get done before I could go to sleep.  So Paul became in charge of dinner.  We knew the rillettes were supposed to chill in the fridge, but at 9pm we were both too tired and hungry to care. We ate these with crackers, apples, cucumbers, carrots, and cheese.  It was a nice, easy dinner on a crazy night.  I didn't think the rillettes were amazing (although maybe I'll like the chilled leftovers better today), but as I've said before I'm a big fan of canned tuna, and we certainly enjoyed these.  Next Wednesday is a big deadline at work, but I'm really hoping that afterward things will calm down and I'll get to make more of the recipes myself again.

  1. Good call to take that mommy and babe time... maybe the seasoning wasn't for you,.. too bad. We enjoyed the change from traditional tuna salad.

  2. I think it's great that you're collaborating more on the recipes. I enjoyed it more as the flavours developed - hope that's true for you, too.

  3. I agree with you that I liked regular tuna salad better. Kudos for you for trying to keep up with the group plus all your other demands. I hope life slows down a bit for you soon:)

  4. Yup, much as I liked the rilettes, I'd go for a more traditional tuna salad if I had a choice :) Glad you enjoyed some lovely Charlotte time outdoors!

  5. As much as I love cooking I wouldn't mind a few weeks of kicking it to the spouse so I could just write about it. I enjoyed this a lot but then I'm not giving up regular tuna salad any time soon!

  6. I love cooking with my husband and I enlist his services every time I have something elaborate to cook! I think you decision to go for the walk with Charlotte was a great idea! As for the recipe I liked it very much. Have a great week Jora and I sincerely wish that this one is a slow one!

  7. I think teamwork in the kitchen lends itself to a happy marriage. I wouldn't worry about why you didn't love this one. There's another new recipe next week! Hope all goes well with your deadline.

  9. I also thought this was better as the flavors had time to meld!
Love the relationship you and your hubby have in the kitchen. Nice that he always steps up for FF.
Glad that you and Charlotte had fun at the park…enjoy every minute because the time goes by so fast! Have a good week and don’t let the stress get to you!

  10. It's amazing how some things can just w-a-i-t. When I was raising my girls, I was pretty organized and Type A and over-the-top-get-through-today's-must-do-List. Until I wasn't. Finally, in the name of sanity, I became a 100-years-from-now Mother. One-hundred years from now, no one will know "Mary's House wasn't clean on Wednesday, May 4th." Or, 100-years-from-now, no one will know I stapled together a rip in MY skirt because I didn't have time to mend it. And, on and on and on. So, taking that time in the park with your daughter is something you WILL remember and she WILL eventually remember - the Mom time. Paul obviously loves jumping into the fray and helping out. The Tuna Rillettes are actually really good so just try them on another day and at another time. Bet you'll like them.

  12. I think I need to change to Joe cooks and Cher writes about it - now I just need to get him to cook :-)

Sometimes, its hard to break away from work and all the other stuff and enjoy life - but its always worth it! Hang in there.
